BAHC in Agartala observes 47th Martyrdom Anniversary and ‘National Mourning Day’ of Bangladesh nation’s father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

Agartala, August 16, 2022: Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala on Monday celebrated the 47th martyrdom anniversary and observed national mourning day of Bangladesh nation’s father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a mournful atmosphere here. On the occasion of observing the ‘National Mourning Day’ with due dignity and in a solemn atmosphere, various programs were organized by the Assistant High Commission in three phases.

In the first phase of the program, at the beginning of the day at 08 am, the national flag of Bangladesh was half-masted at BAHC premises, at 08:05 am, special prayer and prayer for the souls of the martyred members of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members and at 08:15 am on the occasion of the National Mourning Day. Speeches given by His Excellency the President of Bangladesh, Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs were read out.

In the 2nd phase of the programme, a special panel discussion was organized at Hotel Sonar Tari in Agartala at 11 AM. Union minister of state for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, ICA minister Sushanta Chowdhury were present to pay their respects to the portrait of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman installed at the venue of the said meeting and event. Former Speaker and present MLA Rebati Mohan Das, Advocate General of Tripura HC Siddharth Shankar Dey, Law Secretary Biswajit Palit, Chairman of Tripura Higher Education Council Prof. Arunoday Saha, Personality of Liberation War of Bangladesh Government Family members of Maitri awardees including Shyamal Chowdhury, Swapan Kumar Bhattacharya, President of Indo-Bangla Chambers and Commerce Industry, Tripura Chapter Ratan Saha, Secretary of Agartala Press Club Pranab Sarkar, News Editor of Dainik Sanbad Pradip Datta Bhowmik and Syandan Patrika news editor Abhishek Dey, etc.

The program started at 11 am with 1 minute silence. Then the guests successively placed wreaths on the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. At 11:15 am, a documentary on the illustrious political life and activities of the Father of the Nation was screened. At 11:45 a discussion meeting was held on the significance of the National Day of Mourning. At the beginning of the discussion program, the first secretary of the mission and head of Commission Md Rezaul Haque Chowdhury gave a welcome speech.

Assistant High Commissioner Arif Mohammad said in his closing speech that on this day in 1975, assassins brutally killed the greatest Bengali nation father of all time, President Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family. Abominable killers also killed the father of the nation’s consort Bangmata Fazilatunnesa Mujib three sons brave freedom fighter Captain Sheikh Kamal, brave freedom fighter Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal, 10-year-old son Sheikh Russell, daughter-in-law Sultana Kamal and Rozi Jamal, only brother brave freedom fighter Sheikh Abu Nasser, farmer Eighteen members of the family including leader veer freedom fighter Abdur Rab Serniabat, youth leader valiant freedom fighter Sheikh Fazlul Haque and his pregnant wife Arju Moni, Baby Serniabat, Arif Serniabat, journalist Shahid Serniabat, Sukant Babu, Abu Naeem Khan. On National Mourning Day, he reverently remembered all the martyrs of August 15, including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of Bangladesh’s independence and the greatest Bengali father of the nation, and prayed for the forgiveness of their souls. He termed the 15th August assassination as the worst political assassination in the history of the world. The anti-independence faction wanted to erase Bangabandhu from history through this murder. But Bangladesh and Bangabandhu are one and the same. As long as Bangladesh exists, Bangabandhu will be a great hero of history. Besides, the Assistant High Commissioner congratulated all the people of India and the people of Tripura on the occasion of the 75th year of India’s great independence and wished the success of all the initiatives undertaken by the Government of India on the occasion of 75 years of independence. Assistant High Commissioner Arif Mohammad announced the end of the program through his closing speech. After the event, the invited guests were treated to lunch.

In the 3rd phase of the programme, on the occasion of the 47th martyrdom anniversary and National Mourning Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Assistant High Commission served hundreds of orphans of “Anwesha Shishu Suraksha Kendra” at Agartala with high-quality food and various aspects of the struggling and colourful political life of the Father of the Nation. Orphans are highlighted among the children. People from all walks of life of Tripura including local leaders, high-level officials of the state government, journalists and media personalities, dignitaries of civil society, business leaders and officials and employees working in Agartala Mission were present in the National Mourning Day function following the proper hygiene rules of Tripura Government.
