Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala Celebrates National Constitution Day 2023

Agartala, November 04:  The Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala celebrated the National Constitution Day on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the embassy premises. The event was attended by dignitaries of civil society of Tripura and officers and employees of the mission.

The event started at 3 pm with the reading of the speeches of the President and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh on the occasion of the day. A discussion meeting was held at 3:15 pm, where the speakers highlighted the significance and the features of the constitution of Bangladesh. The discussion was moderated by the first secretary and head of the embassy, Mr. Md. Rezaul Haque Chowdhury.

The speakers included the first secretary, Mr. Md. Al Amin, Dr. Mostafa Kamal, a prominent educationist of Agartala, and other guests. They welcomed the observance of the National Constitution Day and the theme of this year, “Bangabandhu’s Thoughts, Description of the Constitution”. They said that the constitution of Bangladesh is one of the best-written constitutions in the world, which reflects the spirit of the freedom struggle and the liberation war, as well as the hopes and aspirations of the people. They also said that the constitution guarantees the fundamental rights of the people and the functioning of the constitutional institutions, such as the executive, the legislative and the judicial branches of the state. They emphasized the need to protect the freedom and sovereignty of the country and to uphold the constitution of Bangladesh.

The assistant high commissioner, Mr. Arif Mohammad, gave the closing speech of the event. He paid tribute to the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and his family, who were assassinated on August 15, 1975. He also paid homage to the 30 lakh martyrs and 2 lakh raped women of the liberation war of 1971. He said that the constitution of Bangladesh was mutilated by the military dictators after the killing of Bangabandhu and his family. He said that the attempts were made to change the basic character and the structure of the constitution and the state, and to make it a communal state based on the Pakistani ideology. He praised the role of the Bangladesh Awami League and the people of Bangladesh, who have always tried to restore and protect the constitution, even in the adverse situations. He expressed his hope for the future generation and quoted Bangabandhu, saying, “If the future generations can establish a society without exploitation based on socialism, democracy, nationalism and secularism conceived by the father of the nation, then my life will be worthwhile, the blood donation of martyrs will be worthwhile”.

The event ended with a vote of thanks by the assistant high commissioner and a cultural program by the embassy staff.
