Agartala, 5th October 2026 : Police in Tripura’s capital Agartala have arrested an alleged Bangladeshi militant and senior arms commander of the Parbattya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS), a group led by Santu Larma, during a raid at Heritage Park, police sources said.
The arrested man has been identified as Shyamal Kanti Chakma alias Toru, who allegedly operated in India under the name Bijoy Chakma and had obtained an Aadhaar card using the Indian identity.
According to police sources, NCC police launched an operation after receiving information that cadres allegedly associated with the PCJSS were holding a secret meeting at Heritage Park. During the raid, police apprehended Shyamal Kanti Chakma, while his associates Mithan Chakma and Jyotishman Chakma alias Bulbul reportedly managed to escape.
Police are currently questioning the arrested suspect at the GP Outpost to ascertain his activities in Tripura, his associates and the circumstances under which he allegedly obtained Indian identity documents.
The arrest has raised questions over the alleged use of Indian identity documents by foreign nationals to establish a base in the state.
The officer-in-charge of the concerned police station declined to comment on the matter, and further details are awaited.
