Agartala, 25th April 2025:  In a significant development, two separate operations at Agartala Railway Station led to the arrest of a Bangladeshi national for illegal entry into India and a local individual involved in attempting to smuggle ganja to Assam.

According to Officer-in-Charge of Agartala Government Railway Police (GRPS), Tapas Das, the first operation led to the apprehension of a Bangladeshi national, Biplab Das, from Sunamganj district in Bangladesh. Das was caught by a joint team of GRPS, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and the Intelligence Division after being found at the railway station. Initial investigations suggest that Das had illegally entered India and was preparing to board a train to Delhi, planning to move further inland. Authorities suspect that more individuals could be involved in this network, and further arrests may follow.

In a separate incident, the GRP and RPF, during another operation at the same railway station, arrested 23-year-old Bishal Natya Das from Surendra Nagar, Gomati district. Das was found carrying 2.055 kg of dry ganja, concealed in a backpack, which he allegedly intended to smuggle to Assam by train. During interrogation, he revealed that the ganja had an estimated value of Rs 25,000 in the Assam market.

Both arrests highlight the ongoing efforts of security agencies to combat illegal activities in the region.
