Agartala, 10th April 2026: A Bangladeshi youth has been arrested by police on charges of illegal infiltration along the India–Bangladesh border in North Tripura district.
According to police sources, the incident took place today during a joint patrol conducted by personnel from Kadamtala Police Station and the Border Security Force (BSF), specifically the 97 Battalion’s ‘C’ Company. The patrol was being carried out in the Sonachhari New Tilla area under the Satsangam Gram Panchayat when security personnel noticed a suspicious individual entering Indian territory.
The youth immediately detained the individual. During preliminary interrogation, he was identified as Russel Ahmed (22), son of late Yasin Ali, a resident of Goalbari under Juri Police Station in Moulvibazar district of Bangladesh.
Initial investigation revealed that he had illegally crossed the international border into Tripura. Following his detention, BSF officials handed him over to Kadamtala Police Station.
Police have registered a case against him under Section 3 of the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920. The case has been recorded as Kadamtala Police Station Case No. 19/26.
On Friday, the accused was produced before the district court after completing necessary legal formalities.
Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to determine whether any other individuals or organized groups were involved in facilitating the illegal entry.
