Agartala, 11th March 2026: A Bangladeshi youth was detained by the Border Security Force (BSF) while allegedly attempting to enter Tripura illegally through the Joypur border area. He was later handed over to the police at West Agartala Police Station for further investigation.

According to BSF sources, personnel of the 42nd Battalion deployed in the Lankamura area noticed two individuals attempting to cross the international border illegally during a routine patrol. The jawans managed to apprehend one of them, while the other reportedly managed to escape.

The detained individual has been identified as Simon Mia, a resident of Brahmanbaria district in Bangladesh.

Later, the BSF handed him over to the police of West Agartala Police Station. The officer-in-charge of the police station said that the detainee is currently being interrogated. Authorities are trying to determine the reasons behind his illegal entry into India and the route he used to cross the border.  Police officials also stated that the accused will be produced before a court, and police remand will be sought for further questioning.

The incident has once again raised concerns about illegal infiltration along the Tripura border. However, the administration has assured that strict surveillance is being maintained along the border to prevent such incidents.
