Agartala, 13th December 2025:  In a significant development in the investigation into the brutal murder of an eight-year-old child at Nadiapur village under Churaibari police station, the family of Nonigopal Singh (43) has asserted his innocence, citing bank CCTV footage that established his whereabouts at the time of the crime.

Police had earlier arrested Madan Gopal Sinha (57) and subsequently Tapas Sinha (38) on the basis of statements made by Bijoya Sinha (28), who sustained serious injuries during the incident. As part of the ongoing probe, Nonigopal Singh, a resident of Ward No. 6 under Govindpur Panchayat, was also taken into custody for questioning.

During interrogation, investigators found that Nonigopal was at Kalachara Gramin Bank at the relevant time, accompanying a cashier from the Prabhati Self-Help Group to withdraw loan funds. CCTV footage obtained from the bank corroborated this account, confirming his presence there and ruling out his involvement in the crime. He was subsequently released.

Addressing the media, Nonigopal reiterated that he had no role in the incident and said the bank’s surveillance footage clearly supported his claim. His family, while expressing deep anguish over the killing of young Amrit Sinha, demanded swift justice and called for the strictest punishment, including capital punishment, for those responsible.

Police officials have also acknowledged that CCTV evidence places Nonigopal away from the crime scene. They added that the investigation is still underway and further developments are expected as the probe progresses.
