B’desh will become a land of human skeletons if Sanatan Dharma disappears: Tripura Minister

Date:

Agartala, 17th June 2026  :    Reacting to reports that construction of what was planned to be the world’s tallest Ram statue in Bangladesh has been temporarily halted, SC, ARDD minister Sudhangshu Das today said that Bangladesh would become a “land of human skeletons” if Sanatan Dharma were to disappear from the country.

Speaking to the media, Das alleged that Bangladesh is increasingly turning into a hardline Islamic state and claimed that certain fundamentalist groups do not want people of other faiths to live there. He further alleged that efforts are being made to reduce the Hindu population in the country, though he asserted that such attempts would not succeed.

Referring to the suspension of the Ram statue project in Palashbari of Gaibandha district, the minister said the construction had been stopped due to pressure from extremist and Islamist groups. However, he expressed confidence that the statue would eventually be completed in the future.

“On the day Sanatan Dharma ends in Bangladesh, there will be no people left there; it will become a country of human skeletons. Nothing will remain in Bangladesh,” Das said.

The minister also targeted certain opposition political parties in India, alleging that they stand with groups that insult Sanatan Dharma. Drawing a political comparison, he claimed that such parties could face a fate similar to that of a major opposition party in West Bengal.

The statue, reportedly planned to be around 81–82 feet tall, was being constructed at the premises of the Sri Sri Radhagobinda and Kali Temple in Palashbari, under Bangladesh’s Rangpur Division. According to reports, the temple authorities have temporarily suspended construction amid strong opposition, threats, and pressure from local Islamist and hardline groups, citing the need to maintain communal harmony in the area.

The development has sparked debate on religious freedom and minority rights in Bangladesh, while also drawing reactions from political leaders across the region.
