Bhagaban urges people to become conscious of saving trees, water

Agartala: July 20. The Labour Minister Bhagaban Chandra Das today urged everyone to become more conscious in saving trees and water.“Forests are intertwined with our lives. Just as forests keep the environment clean, without forests there will be no water. So we have to be more conscious to save trees and water”, said Minister Das while inaugurating the 73rd State-level Forest Festival at Kumarghat Purta Maidan today.

This year as part of the Azadi Ka Amrita Mohotsav programme, the State-wide Forest Mahotsav has been organized by the Forest Department. Exhibition and sale stalls of self-help groups were also opened at Purta Maidan as part of the event.Inaugurating the 73rd State-based Forest Festival, the Minister said that forests are being destroyed indiscriminately due to lack of awareness.

“It has a harmful effect on the environment. To keep the environment clean, to avoid floods and droughts, we have to preserve the forests. Bana Mahotsav is organized every year to awaken this consciousness more and more among the people”, he said.He also said that the government is working on forest and water conservation to maintain the natural beauty of the state.

“Central government is also helping to make Tripura greener. Due to the construction of many check dams by the Forest Department, villagers have been provided with income by fishing there. Besides, through Joint Forest Management Committee, Forest Department is creating income for many people in rural areas”, he said.Labor Minister further said that the construction of a city park at the cost of Rs 10 crore has started in Vidyasagar panchayat of Kumarghat with the initiative of the forest department. The park will be completed within the next three years.

On the occasion, District Magistrate of Unakoti district UK Chakma said that Banamhotsav has been celebrated at the national level since 1950. He said that awareness should be increased among students to plant trees and save them. Chief Forest Department KS Seti, Biswajit Das, Chairperson of Kumarghat Municipal Council, presided over the 73rd State-wide Banamhotsav function. Kumarghat Panchayat Samiti Chairman Happy Das, and Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests VG Jenner were present.
