Bikash Debbarma Visits Hostels, Directs Inquiry Into Alleged Food Supply Irregularities

Agartala, 3rd August 2026: Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma on Monday inspected the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Girls’ Hostel at Jagannath Bari Road in Agartala after allegations surfaced regarding irregularities in food supply and the quality of meals provided to students.

The Minister made an unannounced visit to the hostel and held discussions with the resident students to understand their concerns. He also sought relevant information from officials and those responsible for hostel administration.

After reviewing the situation, Debbarma instructed the concerned authorities to initiate a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the allegations. He emphasized that the matter should be examined thoroughly and that necessary action must follow based on the inquiry report.

“Any form of negligence or misconduct affecting the welfare, safety and interests of students will not be tolerated. If any wrongdoing is established, strict measures will be taken against those involved as per government guidelines,” the Minister said.

During the day, the Tribal Welfare Minister also visited the Bodhjung Street Boys’ Hostel and the Women’s College ST Girls’ Hostel in Agartala to take stock of hostel conditions, infrastructure, management practices and facilities available for students.

He reviewed the overall arrangements at the institutions and assured that steps would be taken to address shortcomings and further improve hostel facilities.

Highlighting the government’s commitment towards student welfare, Debbarma said that creating a secure and supportive environment for students is essential for nurturing future generations and building a stronger society.
