Agartala, 4th September 2025: Former Tripura Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb, a member of the Advisory Committee chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, raised concerns over delays in the recovery and reconstruction of people affected by natural disasters in the state.
The discussion took place during a meeting focused on “Disaster Management and Capacity Building.”
Deb pointed out that delays in conducting post-disaster surveys were causing significant challenges in the timely rehabilitation of affected communities. He emphasized the need for faster assessment processes to ensure that relief reaches those in need without unnecessary delays.
Responding to his concerns, the Committee Chairman informed that the Home Ministry had deployed the Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) on 19 August 2019 and allocated sufficient funds for the affected population. The IMCT subsequently visited the disaster-hit areas, assessed the damage, reviewed the relief measures undertaken by the state administration, and assured that the allocated funds would reach the affected families promptly.
Deb’s suggestions were given priority, and a positive response was received from the Committee, reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving disaster management and rehabilitation efforts in Tripura.
