Agartala, 23rd July 2026 : Tripura Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Thursday called for immediate intervention to improve the state’s road infrastructure during a meeting with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi.
The MP apprised the Union Minister of the poor condition of several national highways in Tripura and expressed concern over the slow progress of ongoing highway projects being executed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). He also discussed the status of proposed ropeway projects, which are expected to enhance connectivity in difficult terrains.
Responding to the concerns, Gadkari reportedly directed the Managing Director of NHIDCL to take prompt steps for the repair and proper maintenance of the damaged national highways. He also instructed officials to ensure the timely completion of ongoing highway projects, underscoring the importance of improving road connectivity in the northeastern state.
Deb said the discussions were focused on addressing infrastructure bottlenecks and accelerating development works that are vital for Tripura’s economic growth and public convenience.
Following the meeting, the former Chief Minister expressed his appreciation to the Union Minister for his prompt response and constructive approach. He thanked Gadkari for extending full cooperation and taking immediate steps to address the issues raised, expressing hope that the Centre’s intervention would lead to faster execution of road projects and significant improvement in Tripura’s transport infrastructure.
