Agartala, 22nd April 2024: Biplab Kumar Deb, former Chief Minister and current Rajya Sabha MP, launched scathing criticisms against the previous Left Front government, accusing them of exploiting and suppressing impoverished individuals for 25 years.

Speaking at an election rally in Kalyanpur, Khowai District, Deb, who is also the BJP candidate for the West Tripura Parliamentary Constituency, highlighted alleged wrongdoings of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) during their lengthy reign.

“Throughout their 25-year rule, the communists preyed on the poor, extracting subscriptions from them and stifling their voices. As a result, they remain oblivious to the struggles of the underprivileged,” remarked Deb passionately.

He went on to mention instances of violence, particularly citing the deaths of numerous Congress workers in Kalyanpur during the CPIM’s tenure. “Political violence marred the landscape, claiming lives and breeding fear. However, since the BJP took office, Tripura has seen a significant reduction in such incidents. The era of animosity between the Congress and the CPIM has given way to a more harmonious environment,” asserted Deb.

Deb further underscored the opposition faced by various parties, including the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) and Tipra Motha, against the communists, stressing that their discontent stemmed from decades of exploitation.

“These parties never opposed the BJP because, for a quarter-century, the Communists oppressed the populace, extorting from the poor and leaving them destitute. Their inability to empathize with the plight of the impoverished is glaring,” Deb emphasized.

He also criticized the CPIM for their failure to resolve longstanding issues, such as those concerning the Bru people, which were only addressed after the BJP assumed power in 2018.
