Birajit slams BJP workers for vandalizing Rajiv Gandhi’s statue

Agartala, 9th June 2024 :  Congress MLA Birajit Sinha today alleged that BJP backed goons have vandalized a statue of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in Kailashahar. He said a series of vandalism incidents have struck Kailashahar, escalating tensions in the region. 

“Following the counting of Lok Sabha votes on June 4, miscreants targeted and vandalized the party office of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPIM]. The next day, a bust of the late poet Himadri Nandan Dev was defaced. On the night of June 8, the statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was desecrated”, he sid. He said that the statue of Rajiv Gandhi, installed by the Kailashahar District Congress in 2009 near Srirampur Bridge in the West Gobindapur area. 

Sinha has also accused the ruling party’s supporters of orchestrating the attacks under the cover of darkness, calling them “cowards” and challenging them to act openly if they possess true strength. Sinha warned that the continued inaction from the police and administrative authorities could force the Congress party to launch street protests. He emphasized the urgency for the administration to intervene before the situation deteriorates further, posing a threat to law and order.
