Agartala, 15th May 2024: The Bishalgarh police have arrested two officers of correctional home linked to the daring escape of Swarna Kumar Tripura, an inmate at the central correctional facility. The authorities are set to present the accused guards before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court on Thursday, with the intention of obtaining a police remand.
The incident took place on Tuesday has sent ripples of shock through Bishalgarh as Swarna Kumar Tripura, who was serving a sentence managed to flee the high-security premises.
In response to the escape, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rakesh Chakraborty lodged a formal complaint against several guards suspecting a conspiracy. The complaint filed on the evening of Tuesday last at the Bishalgarh police station prompted an immediate investigation.
The probe led to the arrest of Central Correctional Jail Warden Mohammad Mofiz Mia and guard Tapan Rupini. With the investigation ongoing, the police are expected to seek an extension of custody for the two accused to delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the escape.
