Agartala, 19th April 2026: The state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bharatiya Janata Party Tripura unit chief Rajib Bhattacharya, today strongly condemned alleged incidents of violence and arson reported in parts of the state following the announcement of the TTAADC election results on April 17.
Addressing a press conference, Bhattacharya claimed that workers of the BJP were targeted in multiple locations. He alleged that in some areas, houses belonging to party workers were set on fire, while in others properties were vandalized and looted, leaving several families displaced and taking shelter in safer locations.
Calling the incidents “completely condemnable,” Bhattacharya said he would take up the matter with the Director General of Police and demand strict action against those involved. He stressed the need for immediate steps to ensure the safety of party workers and restore normalcy in affected areas.
Referring to a separate issue, Bhattacharya also mentioned an alleged audio clip involving MLA Tofazzal Hossain, in which the legislator is purported to have threatened the Officer-in-Charge of Kalamchoura police station over a phone call. The audio has gone viral on social media, triggering political controversy. Bhattacharya said the party would respond further after verifying the authenticity of the recording.
The BJP leadership also criticized the Indian National Congress, accusing it of failing to ensure the passage of the 33% women’s reservation bill in the Lok Sabha, stating that the issue reflects the party’s “lack of commitment” to women’s empowerment.
Police authorities have not yet issued a detailed public statement on the alleged post-poll incidents or the viral audio controversy.
