Agartala, 23rd December 2024: For the first time in its history, the Tripura Pradesh BJP has elected two women as Mandal Presidents, marking a significant milestone in the party’s journey. Alongside this, the party has inducted 95% fresh faces into leadership roles, with a strong focus on youth empowerment.
BJP Office Secretary Samarendra Deb, who also serves as the State Returning Officer for the ongoing Sangathan Prava (organizational elections), highlighted the party’s commitment to building a dynamic and inclusive organizational structure.
“In line with the national framework, the organizational restructuring in Tripura is progressing steadily. Committees are being formed at all levels, from booths to the state level, to ensure a strong foundation for the party. This process began with a membership drive earlier this year and culminated in elections at the booth level,” he said.
The booth-level election phase, conducted between November 11 and 30, involved the formation of committees across all 3,352 booths in the state. Following this, from December 1 to 15, Mandal Committees were constituted. After rigorous consultations and adherence to criteria—including an age limit of 45 years—the party finalized the selection of 60 Mandal Presidents, representing the state’s 60 Mandals.
Samarendra Deb elaborated on the composition of the newly elected Mandal Presidents, emphasizing inclusivity and diversity. “Of the 60 Mandal Presidents, 23.3% are from Scheduled Tribes, 18.3% are from Scheduled Castes, 36.7% belong to the General category, and 21.7% are from Other Backward Classes. Importantly, this marks the first instance of two women being elected as Mandal Presidents, a step towards greater gender representation in the party,” he said.
The BJP leader also noted the party’s conscious efforts to rejuvenate its organizational ranks by bringing in young leaders. “With 95% new faces, this election reflects our focus on empowering the youth and preparing the next generation of leadership. This is not just a reorganization but a movement towards a more vibrant and representative BJP in Tripura,” he concluded.
