Agartala, 13th April 2024:   Pradesh Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty on Saturday leveled serious allegations against the ruling BJP party. He claimed that over the past decade, the BJP has failed to fulfill its promises to the nation, particularly to the farming community, leading to widespread distress among farmers.

“Despite assurances made prior to their election victory in 2014, the BJP has not implemented the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, nor have they succeeded in doubling farmers’ incomes or alleviating their debts,” stated Chakraborty while briefing media persons at Congress Bhavan here on Saturday.

He cited a lack of visible progress on the government’s commitments and linked this to the tragic statistic that approximately 425,000 farmers have taken their own lives during this period.

In response to these concerns, the Congress has vowed to deliver ‘five justices’ to address the grievances and challenges faced by the agricultural sector.

The BJP had previously pledged to prioritize the welfare of farmers, including the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s suggestions and measures to enhance farmers’ earnings. However, the opposition claims that these promises have remained unfulfilled, leading to a crisis in the agricultural community.

The Congress’ announcement of ‘five justices’ aims to provide a counter-narrative and a promise of reform and support for the farmers, though the specifics of these measures have yet to be detailed.

The allegations and promises come at a time when the nation’s agricultural sector is under intense scrutiny, and the political discourse is increasingly focused on the well-being of its farmers.
