Agartala, 31st January 2024 :   In a significant political development in Tripura, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a boost as more than 1500 voters, including members of the principal opposition party Tipra Motha, joined the BJP on Wednesday. The move comes ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state.

Addressing the gathering, BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharya criticized the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) and Tipra Motha, accusing them of misappropriating funds meant for the development of indigenous communities in the state.

“BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi prioritize actions over slogans. PM Modi is committed to working for the welfare of all, especially indigenous communities. This is his main agenda – working for the poor. The Bru people have joined BJP, expressing their support for PM Modi, who has granted them permanent residency in Tripura after 23 years of being known as refugees,” said Bhattacharya.

He further accused CPIM of depriving the Bru people of their rights and criticized Tipra Motha for allegedly misusing funds intended for the development of the indigenous population.

Bhattacharya asserted, “Our double-engine government is dedicated to overall development, gaining the trust of the people. Only BJP can bring real development, not CPIM, Congress, or any other party. The previous CPIM-led government allegedly looted funds intended for the poor, and Tipra Motha is accused of doing the same with the indigenous people.”

BJP State General Secretary Bipin Debbarma revealed that the joining program took place in three locations, including Jiulcherra Bru resettlement camp, Dhalai District Party office, and Kachucherra under Dhalai District of Tripura, where over 1500 voters switched allegiance from Tipra Motha and CPIM to BJP. The party aims to capitalize on the discontent and alleged fund mismanagement by the opposition parties as it gears up for the upcoming elections.
