Agartala, 6th June 2024: Krishnapur assembly constituency, usually known for its political fervor, is now witnessing a disturbing turn of events as intra-party conflicts within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have escalated into violent clashes.
However, the MLA and Minister of this Assembly Bikash Debbarma has claimed that no such incidents of violence has reported in his area. This internal strife, ignited following the announcement of the Lok Sabha election results, has led to widespread violence across the constituency, raising fears of potential fatalities.
Yesterday night, various parts of the Krishnapur assembly constituency, including the Golabari area under Teliamura police station, became hotspots of violence. Political observers warn that the situation is rapidly deteriorating, with a significant risk of further escalation.
Sources said that one of the key incidents involved an attack on one Bapan Das, a BJP member, in Golabari. According to the source, Das was assaulted, and his motorcycle was vandalized.
He was subsequently taken to Teliamura police station. Bapan Das has accused several prominent BJP members, including Nirmal Debnath, President of Krishnapur Mandal Youth Morcha, and Bijan Kar, Secretary of BJP’s Khowai District Committee, of orchestrating the attack.
In a retaliatory move, the residence of Manik Ghosh, BJP booth president of booth No. 15 in Krishnapur, was attacked between 1:30 and 2:00 am. Ghosh alleged that Saurabh Das, another BJP member, led the attack. Locals apprehended Saurabh Das and handed him over to the police. Ghosh emphatically stated that no workers or supporters from other parties were involved, underscoring the intra-party nature of the violence.
The ongoing violence has not only caused physical harm but has also disrupted the social fabric of the community. Residents express concerns over the increasing insecurity and the potential for further conflict. The BJP’s internal discord is seen as a significant factor contributing to the instability in the region.
