Agartala, 15th June 2024: Chaos took place at the Gournagar RD Block office as three individuals allegedly affiliated with the ruling BJP party stormed the premises today assaulting government employees and causing widespread damage. The incident took place around 2 pm that left three employees injured and sparked outrage within the administrative circles.
According to eyewitnesses, including the victims themselves Pulkesh Nag along with his colleagues Pinki Pal Chowdhury and Mohitosh Bhattacharjee were working when suddenly, three intruders identified as Jewel Ahmed, Abdul Qadir, and Rajib Ali forcibly entered their office. The attackers described as BJP members reportedly targeted Pulkesh Nag assaulting him and causing significant damage to office property, including computers and furniture.
“Pinki Devi stood up to defend Pulkesh Nag, but she was forcefully removed from the room and subsequently lost consciousness,” one witness recounted. The violence escalated quickly, creating an atmosphere of fear and tension among staff members present at the scene.
“The injured employees were promptly rushed to Unakoti District Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment,” a senior official confirmed. Pulkesh Nag, determined to seek justice asserted that a formal complaint will be lodged with the Kailashahar police station against the assailants.
Amidst the uproar, Siddharth Datta, the president of 53-Kailashahar mandal condemned the incident stating that such acts of violence within government premises are intolerable. “Legal action will be pursued rigorously, and those responsible will face the full consequences of the law,” Datta added.
The motive behind the brazen attack remains unclear, though speculations hint at political tensions escalating in the run-up to the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections. Questions now loom over the actions to be taken by the BJP leadership at both local and district levels, as allegations of tarnishing the party’s image and disrupting public order continue to reverberate.
