Agartala, 25th July 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has refuted allegations of nepotism and corruption in a 5-crore rubber and bamboo cultivation project implemented across three ADC villages in the Gournagar block. The party dismissed the claims as “baseless and politically motivated,” during a press conference held in the Chinibagan area of Kailashahar yesterday.
Joseph Darlong, State Committee member of the BJP Janajati Morcha, directly responded to the accusations made a day earlier by Badrurzzaman, Vice Chairman of the Gournagar Panchayat Samiti. “The allegations are unfounded and driven by political motives. We strongly condemn this attempt to mislead the public,” Darlong said.
Badrurzzaman had alleged that the selection of beneficiaries in Deorachhara, Hirachhara, and Unakoti villages was marred by favoritism and political interference, with priority given to preferred individuals and involvement at the ministerial level.
Countering these charges, Darlong clarified that the beneficiary list was compiled through village assemblies and subsequently submitted to the BDO of Gournagar. “The Panchayat Samiti doesn’t fall under our administrative jurisdiction, so we are not obligated to communicate separately with them. Our elected representative is Bimal Kanti Chakma, MDC of the Karamchhara constituency,” he added.
He further stated that Congress workers were present and signed the proceedings during the village meetings, confirming that the list was unanimously approved. “No ministerial influence or personal bias guided the beneficiary selection,” Darlong asserted.
Also present at the briefing were BJP Janajati Morcha Kailashahar Mandal President Muna Darlong and other party leaders from the three ADC village committees.
