Agartala, 7th November 2026 : Ahead of the nationwide observance of Janjati Gaurav Divas on November 15, the Bharatiya Janata Janjati Morcha organised a one-day workshop at Bhagat Singh Shubh Awas on Saturday to highlight the contributions of tribal communities to India’s freedom movement.
BJP State President Abhishek Debroy, Organizational Secretary Rabindra Raju, Minister Bikash Debbarma, Minister Ram Pada Jamatia and other party leaders attended the workshop. Sameer Oraon from Delhi was also present, along with representatives of the tribal leadership.
Speaking at the programme, Debroy said the decision to observe the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda as Janjati Gaurav Divas was an important step towards recognising the sacrifices of tribal freedom fighters who had remained largely absent from mainstream historical narratives.
He said that for a long time, the country’s freedom struggle was predominantly associated with a few prominent personalities, leaving the contributions of numerous tribal leaders and freedom fighters inadequately acknowledged. According to him, initiatives undertaken under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, have helped bring these forgotten chapters of history before the people.
“Had the BJP not come to power, perhaps many people would never have come to know about Bhagwan Birsa Munda. Tribal communities also played a significant role in the freedom struggle, and remembering Birsa Munda means honouring all those who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence,” Debroy said.
He accused the Congress of failing to provide due recognition to tribal heroes in the past and asserted that the BJP was committed to highlighting their contributions. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking the initiative to bring the historical role of tribal freedom fighters into national focus.
Debroy further said that the workshop was aimed at sensitising party leaders and workers about the significance of the occasion. He added that Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary would be celebrated across Tripura on November 15 through various programmes, including a fair.
