Agartala, 8th April 2025:  Former Tripura Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remains committed to the welfare of all communities, including Muslims, while accusing opposition parties of exploiting religious sentiments for political gain.

Speaking at a meeting in Sonamura, Sepahijala district, where he addressed the themes of One Nation, One Election and the Waqf Bill, Deb sharply criticized parties such as the Congress, CPI(M), and Samajwadi Party. He claimed that these parties have historically misled large sections of the Muslim population while prioritizing the interests of a few influential individuals.

“The BJP believes in equal development and strong leadership,” Deb said, adding that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the country has moved beyond appeasement politics. “We need more than just an army—we need direction and vision. That is where the BJP stands apart.”

Deb alleged that earlier governments led by the Congress and Communists engaged in selective appeasement, enabling misuse of waqf properties under the pretext of serving the community. “There are vast waqf assets in this country, but how much of it has been used to build schools, hospitals, or colleges for the common people?” he asked. “A small elite benefited while the majority remained deprived.”

Highlighting the recent Waqf Bill as a reform measure, Deb claimed that the BJP’s efforts were aimed at ensuring transparency and equitable access to waqf resources. “Those who earlier profited from this system are now opposing reforms, exposing their political motives,” he said.

The BJP leader further emphasized that, unlike the opposition, his party had taken concrete steps for the welfare of Muslims. “Be it the abolition of triple talaq or welfare schemes for education and livelihoods, the Modi government has always stood by the common Muslim citizen without resorting to tokenism,” Deb added.

He concluded by stating that opposition parties rely on confusion and fearmongering, whereas the BJP’s focus remains on progress, good governance, and national unity.
