Agartala, 22nd June 2025: To mark 50 years since the imposition of the Emergency in India, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) is set to organize mock parliaments across the country, including two locations in Tripura.
Addressing a press conference at the state BJP headquarters on Sunday, Pradesh Yuva Morcha president and MLA Sushanta Deb said that mock parliaments will be held at Sukanta Academy in Agartala on June 25 and at Dharmanagar on June 28.
“On June 25, 1975, Emergency was declared across the country, effectively killing democracy. As we approach the 50th anniversary of that day, it is important for the youth to understand the value of democratic institutions and the dangers of authoritarianism,” Deb said.
He added that the BJYM is organizing mock parliaments at 100 locations nationwide as part of this initiative. The events aim to educate young citizens about parliamentary functioning and the historical significance of the Emergency period.
The programs are expected to see the participation of youth leaders, students, and party members, with discussions on democracy, constitutional rights, and civic responsibilities.
