Agartala, April 20, 2023: In a tragic incident, a tenth standard student of Amarpur school died after being drowned in a local lake as the boat carrying him capsized.

The incident took place at Amarpur sub-division under Gomati District of Tripura on Thursday. The deceased boy had been identified as Chayan Debnath. Debnath and his friends went to Fatik Sagar to take a bath in search of respite from the searing summer heat. On reaching there, they noticed the state government boat which was ferrying passengers in the lake. The excited friends decided to go for boating where the tragic incident happened. The boat reached the mid area of the lake where water level is very high and due to some technical snags it capsized.

Although prompt action of the locals could save Debnath’s friends, he was drowned in the deep water. His friends said they had tried to help Chayan but he did not know how to swim.

Mortal remains of Chayan were later recovered by the SDRF and Fire brigade troopers. A pall of gloom descended over the area as the news of the tragic incident spread.
