Body of missing woman found in river, sparks community outcry

Agartala, 21st September 2024:   The body of Yasmin Khatun, a mentally unstable woman who had been missing since September 15 was found floating in a river in the Ishanchandra Nagar Gabtali area on Saturday afternoon. The finding has caused significant excitement and concern among local residents.

Yasmin Khatun, wife of Yunus Mia from Fultali Rajeshwari Nagar had given birth to twins several months back. Tragically, one of the twins died shortly after birth leading to Yasmin’s gradual mental decline. Her disappearance prompted her husband to file a missing person report at the Amtali police station.

Despite extensive search efforts by the police and her relatives, Yasmin remained missing until her body was found. As news of the discovery spread, a large crowd gathered at the scene. Yasmin’s family, including her husband, rushed to the location and confirmed her identity.

Sub-inspector Susmita Debnath and other police personnel from Amtali police station arrived promptly at the scene. The forensic team was also notified and began a preliminary investigation. Yasmin’s body was subsequently sent to the morgue Tripura Medical College & Hospital at Hapania for a post-mortem examination.

The police have registered an unusual death case and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Yasmin’s death. Her body will be handed over to her family after the post-mortem on Sunday.

The tragic death of Yasmin Khatun has cast a pall of sorrow over the entire community.
