Agartala, July 24, 2022: Taking advantage of darkness, a thief was found to sweep essential materials from Nawadipchandra institution, located beside the SDM office of Sonamura sub-division, but the watchmen or night guards patrolling in the heart of Sonamura town last night caught the thief red-handed. The youth booked is identified as Kalam Miah (27).
It is reported that the night watchmen of the market while patrolling in the market saw a person coming out with some books from Sonamura’s Nawadipchandra institution. As his movement seemed to be suspicious, they went ahead and booked the youth Kalam. Thereafter, the night watchmen come to know that he was keeping the books together in the abandoned rooms adjacent to the office of the Sonamura SDM from where he would later sell the books. The surprising thing is that various drug paraphernalia were found in the abandoned rooms adjacent to the SDM office.
Later, they quickly handed over the youth to Sonamura Police Station. But the remarkable thing is that the booked thief has frankly admitted that he had stolen books from this school before and sold them elsewhere. So, the school authorities are not keeping any account of the number of books coming to each school from the Education Department of Tripura and the number of books being distributed among the students or the silent school authorities knows this incident. And if they know everything then why did they not complain to the Inspectorate of Schools or District Education Officer or the police station when the books were stolen earlier.
It is easy to imagine that the citizens of Sonamura will have to prepare for bigger incidents in the coming days if all these things are not kept under close supervision. Now it is to be seen that whether the school authorities initiate any action in this regard and how much the role of the police will be?
