Agartala, 14th May 2024: In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a leisurely afternoon swim turned into a nightmare at Prem Sagar, Kamthana border village of Bishalgarh subdivision, as a minor lost his life due to drowning.
Shubo Chowdhury, the son of Shankar Chowdhury and a recent Higher Secondary Examination pass-out, tragically met his demise while bathing with friends.
Shubo, along with his companions, ventured into the waters of Prem Sagar, unaware of the impending tragedy as none of them were proficient swimmers. Despite the lack of swimming skills, they immersed themselves in the waters for relief from the scorching heat. However, the joyous occasion turned dire when Shubo found himself unable to stay afloat.
The distressing situation unfolded rapidly as Shubo struggled to keep himself above water. His friends’ panicked screams attracted a crowd, who promptly rushed to their aid. Despite valiant efforts from bystanders, including multiple attempts to locate Shubo in the water, the search proved fruitless initially.
Promptly notified of the incident, the fire brigade sprang into action, deploying their resources to assist in the search and rescue operation. After an intense two-hour search, the lifeless body of Shubo Chowdhury was finally retrieved from the depths of Prem Sagar.
Tragically, despite the best efforts of responders and medical professionals, Shubo was pronounced dead upon arrival at Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital, sending shockwaves of grief throughout his family and the community at large.
