Agartala, 15th April 2024:  A daring gang of thieves has left the residents of Dharmanagar on edge after a brazen daytime heist. The incident occurred on Sunday, colloquially known as “Poila Baishakh,” when Narayani Bhattacharya, a Sarat Pally resident, locked her house at 2:30 PM to visit a close relative’s home in Rajbari.

Upon returning home around 6 PM, Bhattacharya was met with a shocking scene: the grill lock had been broken, and the interior lights were on. Swiftly alerting her neighbors, she contacted the Dharmanagar police station. Within a mere three and a half to four hours, the thieves had ransacked her house, making off with a mobile phone valued at approximately Rs 40,000 and some gold grains.

Local authorities responded promptly, creating a general diary and assuring Bhattacharya that an investigation would be conducted. However, the audacity of the theft during daylight hours has left the community unsettled. Residents now express concern that thefts occurring in the afternoon and evening are becoming all too common in the heart of Dharmanagar.
