Agartala, 18th March 2025: In a major development, three personnel of the Tripura Police—an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), a Constable, and a Special Police Officer (SPO)—have been closed and suspended over serious allegations of misconduct, including bribery.
Sources revealed that the police officials were allegedly caught taking a bribe from a person during a night vehicle check in the Bishramganj area of Tripura’s Sepahijala District. Acting on these allegations, Sepahijala District Superintendent of Police (SP) Bijoy Debbarma ordered an inquiry, which confirmed their involvement.
Following the findings, ASI Vivekananda Debbarma and Constable Badura Debbarma were suspended, while SPO Partha Das was closed. Speaking on the matter, SP Debbarma stated, “As an ASI, it was his responsibility to ensure discipline, but his negligence led to this action. Departmental proceedings will follow.”
The incident has raised concerns over corruption within law enforcement, prompting calls for stricter accountability and oversight.
