Agartala, 25th January 2026:   A horrific incident of family violence has once again shaken the R.F. Tilla area, leaving residents gripped by fear and anger. On Saturday night around 9:30 p.m., Indrajit Dey, allegedly intoxicated, attacked his mother, Swapna Dey, and wife, Swagata Dey, with a sharp weapon. Both women sustained grievous injuries in the assault.

Hearing their cries, local residents rushed to the scene and rescued the victims, who were immediately taken to Gomati District Hospital. Police from Radhakishorepur station arrived shortly after and detained the accused, bringing him into custody.

Following the incident, disturbing revelations surfaced. Locals alleged that Indrajit Dey had previously been involved in similar acts of domestic violence. On that occasion, he was handed over to police but released the same day. Residents now question whether such administrative leniency paved the way for Saturday’s brutal attack.

The assault triggered chaos in R.F. Tilla, with enraged locals reportedly beating the accused before police intervened to restore order. Meanwhile, the condition of both victims deteriorated, prompting doctors to refer them from Gomati District Hospital to Agartala’s GB Hospital for advanced treatment. Medical authorities have described their condition as critical.

This incident has raised serious concerns not only about domestic violence but also about administrative accountability and preventive measures. Residents are asking whether timely and strict police action could have averted such a tragic outcome. Calls for a transparent investigation into both the accused’s past record and the police’s earlier handling of the matter are growing louder.

Police have launched an investigation, but the community continues to demand answers and accountability.
