Agartala, 28th July 2025: The Border Security Force (BSF) in a late night operation intercepted a smuggling operation near the Belonia-Siddhinagar border seizing pharmaceutical consignments worth an estimated 60 lakh. Three individuals including the driver of the vehicle involved have been taken into custody.
According to BSF officials, the vehicle was spotted under suspicious circumstances around midnight and was subsequently searched. A large quantity of assorted medicines was discovered hidden inside. The driver and co-driver failed to produce any valid documentation pertaining to the cargo and claimed that two other individuals from Bilonia had loaded the medicines and were following them to the border area. However, those alleged accomplices were not found at the scene.
The detained youths have been handed over to customs authorities, along with the confiscated goods and vehicle. A formal case has been registered, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the source and intended destination of the seized medicines.
Preliminary findings suggest the consignment was intended to be smuggled into Bangladesh, marking yet another instance of illicit cross-border trade in the region.
