BSF jawan found dead after gunshot at Tripura border post

Agartala, 1st October 2026 :   A BSF jawan was found dead following a gunshot incident at a border duty post in West Tripura on Thursday morning, with preliminary reports indicating that he may have died by suicide.

The incident was reported at around 5:45 am near Gate No. 52, under the Tebaria Border Out Post (BOP) of the 42nd Battalion BSF.

The deceased was identified as Nagendra Kumar, a resident of Dosod in Rajasthan.

According to sources, Kumar was on duty when the incident occurred. He allegedly used his service weapon, though the circumstances preceding the incident have not yet been established.

The incident has led to confusion over jurisdiction, as the area is reportedly linked to Airport Police Station, while the exact place of occurrence falls under Lefunga Police Station.

Police and BSF officials have launched an inquiry into the incident. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the death and are expected to gather statements and other evidence as part of the probe.

The body has been taken for necessary legal procedures, while further details are awaited.
