Agartala, 2nd August 2025: Tensions have reached a boiling point in the Kamalasagar border area following a brutal assault on a local tea garden night guard and a youth leader allegedly perpetrated by Sector Aditya Singh of the BSF’s controversial 49 Battalion unit yesterday. Singh, who has long faced allegations of misconduct and authoritarian behavior, reportedly attacked the victims with his team on Friday night, escalating months of unrest in the area.
According to sources, the incident took place around 8 PM near the Kamalasagar Miyapara tea estate. Rakesh Deb, son of the late Harilal Deb and manager of the estate, had called Singh for assistance in deploying laborers. As Deb exited the tea garden office after their meeting, he was ambushed by Singh, AS Choudhury and another BSF personnel identified as Sardar. Witnesses claim that Singh struck Deb with the barrel of a rifle, shattering his arm and causing multiple injuries across his body. Deb collapsed unconscious at the scene.
Night guard Anil Sarkar reportedly intervened but was also attacked by Singh’s team. Both men lay unconscious along the roadside until local residents discovered them and rushed them to the Madhupur Primary Health Centre. However, even while under medical care, the victims allegedly faced further intimidation attempts from the BSF personnel.
Public outcry intensified following the incident, leading to formal complaints being lodged at Madhupur police station on Saturday afternoon against all three accused officers. Residents allege that Aditya Singh has repeatedly terrorized the local population for over six months restricting movement, harassing students, and fostering illicit substance use among youth.
