Agartala, 18th August 2025:    A group of burglars targeted the West Anandnagar Girls’ Hostel under Srinagar Police Station late last night, making off with gold ornaments and approximately Rs 1.5 lakh in cash.

Initial reports indicated that the hostel had been temporarily closed and students were sent home several days back. Hostel in-charge Supriya Debnath had also left for her residence due to the Independence Day and Janmashtami holidays on August 15.

Allegations have surfaced that the night guard, Rabindra Majumdar failed to report for duty yesterday without informing the in-charge. The absence of security personnel is believed to have provided the burglars an opportunity to break in and loot the premises.

Local police were alerted shortly after the incident and arrived at the scene to begin their investigation. Authorities have noted a recent surge in thefts across various areas under Srinagar Police Station, with several cases involving stolen equipment and valuables. Despite ongoing efforts, no arrests have been made so far.

Residents have expressed concern over the recurring thefts and urged law enforcement to strengthen security measures and expedite the investigation.
