Agartala, August 23, 2023: In a significant development, the Bus Jeep Drivers Association has initiated a protest action, causing a complete halt in traffic flow on the Assam-Agartala National Highway No. 8 on Wednesday. The association, comprising dedicated drivers, has put forth a comprehensive list of 13 demands to address various issues affecting their profession.
These demands include an immediate cessation of auto and rickshaw permits for routes exceeding 15 kilometers, stringent enforcement of passenger transport rules requiring e-rickshaw permits in Kamalpur, and a one-time suspension of vehicle fitness inspections and fines dating back to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both the Deputy Commissioner of Police and the Ambasa police station have been alerted to this incident. They promptly engaged in dialogue with the protesting drivers to assess the situation and address their grievances.
In an encouraging turn of events, the Deputy General Manager (DGM) has provided assurance that a meeting with the District Magistrate is scheduled for August 25th to discuss these pressing matters. In light of this commitment, the drivers have cooperatively cleared the blockade, allowing traffic to resume on the Assam-Agartala National Highway No. 8.
This ongoing negotiation between the authorities and the Bus Jeep Drivers Association remains a focal point for concerned parties as they work towards resolving the issues at hand.
