Agartala, 17th November 2025: A market trader identified as Laxman Saha was brutally assaulted inside his shop yesterday morning by alleged members of a newly emerged mafia group in Kakraban. The attack reportedly stemmed from his refusal to pay an extortion demand of Rs 1 lakh to the local gang.

Locals informed that the assailants stormed into Saha’s shop armed with iron rods, pipes and wooden sticks leaving him severely injured and bleeding. In a desperate bid to save his life, Saha fled to Kakraban police station, where he sought refuge.

The accused have been named as Babul Deb, Jamal Mirda, Rajesh Sarkar, Nikhil Saha, and Narayan Saha, all residents of the Kakraban area.

The victim’s wife further alleged that the same group had attacked their residence the previous night, pelting the house with liquor bottles and bricks. The assault on her husband inside his shop the following morning, she said, was a continuation of the intimidation campaign against their family.

Police have registered a complaint, and investigations are underway.
