Agartala, 7th April 2026: Tensions erupted in Dharmanagar during the final hours of the by-election campaign, as allegations surfaced against BJP candidate Jahar Chakraborty for obstructing the campaign vehicle of Congress candidate Chayan Bhattacharya. The incident reportedly sparked unrest in the area.
According to reports, Chayan Bhattacharya’s campaign vehicle was suddenly blocked before the scheduled end of the campaign period. The Congress candidate personally raised the issue, accusing the BJP of deliberately disrupting their election campaign.
Chayan Bhattacharya stated, “In a democratic process, all parties should have equal rights to campaign. Blocking our campaign vehicle in this manner is completely unethical and constitutes a violation of election rules.”
So far, Jahar Chakraborty and his team have not responded to the allegations. While the incident caused a brief period of tension in the locality, authorities were able to restore order later.
