Cannabis smuggling racket busted: Courier company under scrutiny

Agartala, 1st April 2025:   In a significant crackdown on drug smuggling, authorities have apprehended a courier company, Ecom Express for its involvement in transporting cannabis. The company facilitates deliveries through Flipkart was targeted following a tip-off. A joint operation by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police Force (GRPF) led to the search of one of the company’s vehicles.

During the operation, officials recovered a staggering 59 kilograms of cannabis concealed in 26 packets across six cartons. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is approximately Rs 6 lakh. Three individuals including the company’s manager have been arrested in connection with the case.

Sources reveal that the cannabis originated from a courier company in RK Nagar, owned by a Kolkata-based firm. It was transported via rail to Agartala railway station, with its final destinations being Sahil in Delhi and Kunal Kumar in Patna. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the smuggling network.
