Agartala, August 27, 2022: In two separate search operations, cannabis over one tonne worth Rs 1.10 crore has been seized from two trucks by the police personnel of Churaibari outpost in Assam and Churaibari police station in Tripura on Saturday.
Reportedly, Churaibari outpost in-charge Niranjan Das said the police seized 700 kilograms of cannabis after searching a Punjab-bound truck PB01AN-5971. The seized cannabis would cost around Rs 70 lakh in the black market. Driver Hemraj Singh (27) of Uttar Pradesh and co-driver Santosh Kumar (22) of Rajasthan have been detained. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act. A sum of Rs 1 lakh would be paid to the driver if he reaches Shillong from Agartala with the cannabis, said the driver.
Meanwhile, Churaibari police station staff in Tripura on basis of secret information stopped a Himachal Pradesh-bound truck HP31C-5226 and 400 kilograms of cannabis were seized. The seized cannabis would cost around Rs 40 lakh in the back market. Driver Sridhar Srikanth (35) and co-driver Anil Kumar (43), residents of Himachal Pradesh were arrested. A case against them has been filed at Churaibari police station under the NDPS Act.
