Agartala, 5th November 2025:  A private vehicle was allegedly torched by unidentified miscreants in the Durgapur area of Kailashahar’s Ward No. 15 late Tuesday night, triggering widespread panic and concern among residents.

The incident took place around 1 AM when a Maruti Suzuki Eeco parked in the garage outside the residence of local resident Mrinmoy Mallik suddenly caught fire. According to eyewitness accounts, two young men reportedly scaled the gate and alerted Mallik’s elder brother, shouting that the vehicle was ablaze.

“We were all asleep when the youths called out. By the time we rushed out, the car was engulfed in flames,” Mallik told reporters. Despite frantic efforts by family members to douse the fire with water, the rear portion of the vehicle was severely damaged.

Locals have raised concerns over the recent presence of unfamiliar youths in the neighborhood, though no suspects have been identified yet. “We don’t know who did this, but it seems like a planned act,” Mallik added.

Following the incident, police from Kailashahar station visited the site this morning and initiated an investigation. Authorities have indicated that a forensic team may be called in to determine the cause of the blaze.

The Durgapur residents are demanding swift arrests and increased night patrols to ensure safety.
