Agartala, 10th June 2024:   A group of casual workers from IGM and GB Hospitals gathered in front of Directorate of Health Services at Gorkhabasti on Monday demanding their long-awaited regularization. Later, a delegation of the workers met with an official to present their case.

“For the past 30 years, many of us have been employed as irregular workers in IGM and GB hospitals,” stated one of the workers. “The state government had assured us that after 10 years of service, we would be regularized. However, the government has not taken any steps to fulfill this promise.”

The workers expressed frustration over the financial difficulties they face due to irregular wages. “We are suffering financial losses and are unable to resolve various problems because we are not receiving proper wages for our work,” another worker explained.

Despite their long-standing demands for regularization, the workers’ pleas have gone unanswered. This lack of response forced them to take their case to the Tripura High Court. On May 13, the High Court ruled in favor of the workers, stating that they should receive equal pay for equal work.

“On Monday, we have submitted a deputation to the Health Department Officer, reiterating our demand for regularization,” a member of the delegation said. “We hope this action will finally bring the change we have been waiting for.”

The workers remain hopeful that the state government will act promptly to address their concerns and fulfill its promises.
