Agartala, 22nd July 2025: A portion of the ceiling at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vidyajyoti School collapsed late last night prompting alarm among the school community and residents. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the incident took place after hours.
Teachers, staff and parents expressed relief that students were not present at the time. However, serious concerns have been raised about the structural integrity of the school, particularly its conference hall, which was inaugurated in 2022 following infrastructure development facilitated by Telangana Governor Dr. Jishnu Dev Varma.
The collapse took place just three years post-inauguration has sparked widespread criticism over alleged poor construction quality. Residents pointed to visible cracks in the building’s pillars and walls suggesting systemic structural issues. Many questioned why the ceiling failed and whether substandard materials were used during construction.
Calls have emerged for accountability, with demands for an investigation into the contractor responsible for the hall’s construction. The school’s SMC (School Management Committee) Chairman and the Principal have confirmed to local media that all scheduled programmes in the conference hall have been suspended until further notice.
