Agartala: February 12. The Central Government has notified the appointment of Justice Jaswant Singh as the new Chief Justice of Tripura High Court.

He is ready to go in retirement on February 22.Jaswant Singh’s name was proposed as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court in September 2022 as replacement for Justice Muralidhar, whose transfer as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court was recommended.

The Centre withheld approval for the transfer of Justice Muralidhar. Hence, the collegium recalled the proposal to elevate Justice Jaswant Singh as Orissa HC CJ and proposed him instead as Tripura HC CJ on January 25.

Law minister Kiren Rijiju announced the appointment on Twitter. Justice Singh is the second senior most judge of the Orissa High Court and will take over from acting Chief Justice Amarnath T. Goud of the Tripura HC.

Since Justice Singh is due to retire on February 22, the collegium has also proposed the appointment of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, judge, Jharkhand High Court, as Tripura HC CJ after Justice Singh’s retirement.
