Agartala, 23rd August 2024:  The Government of India has sanctioned an advance release of ₹40 crore to aid the flood-affected population in Tripura. The devastating floods, triggered by incessant rainfall since August 19, have displaced over 60,000 people, forcing them to seek refuge in more than 400 relief camps across the state. Tragically, the death toll has risen to 20.

On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that, considering the gravity of the situation, the central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the advance release of ₹40 crore as the central share from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to support relief efforts for the affected population.

“Given the flood situation in Tripura, the central government, under Modi Ji’s leadership, has approved an advance release of ₹40 crore as the central share from SDRF. Eleven NDRF teams, three Army columns, and four Air Force helicopters have been deployed by the Centre to assist the state government in ongoing relief and rescue operations,” Shah said.

He further assured the people of Tripura that the Modi government remains committed to standing by them during these difficult times.Thankfully, the situation has shown signs of improvement since Friday morning, with the cessation of rainfall on Thursday leading to a reduction in the water levels of major rivers.
