Agartala, 13th August 2025:   Central government has sanctioned additional funds to expedite the completion of the lighthouse project near the Akhaura border in Agartala.

According to sources close to Tripura Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb, the approval came following his request to the Centre for extra funds to restart the stalled construction work. The project—one of only six such lighthouses in the country and the first in the North East—was initiated during Deb’s tenure as Chief Minister.

On July 24, Deb met Union Housing, Urban Affairs and Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi, where he highlighted the land-related and other hurdles that had delayed progress. Initially, construction had moved swiftly, but later slowed significantly.

The housing project, once completed, will accommodate 1,000 families. With the fresh allocation, work is expected to resume soon, ensuring the project’s timely completion.
