Agartala, 8th August 2025:  Central Government has sanctioned Rs 250 crore for the welfare and development of the tribal population in Tripura, in line with the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed between the Government of India, the Government of Tripura, and the banned insurgent outfits — the National Liberation Front of Twipra (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF).

The NLFT and ATTF were active militant groups in the state for decades. On September 4, 2024, over 328 armed cadres from these outfits laid down arms, renounced violence, and joined the mainstream, pledging to contribute towards building a developed Tripura and a stronger India.

Announcing the decision, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the funding as part of a new component under the Central Government’s Special Development Package for Tripura.

“Rs 250 crore has been earmarked for the development of tribals as per the MoS signed with the NLFT and ATTF groups,” Dr. Saha stated.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the package aims to improve the socio-economic conditions of vulnerable and marginalised communities who have not been adequately covered by existing government schemes.

The funds will be utilised for boosting employment opportunities, expand access to healthcare services, promote education, skill development, and sustainable livelihoods for youth and women, enhance tourism inflow to create additional income and job avenues in the North Eastern Region.

Dr. Saha emphasised that the move not only marks a significant step in Tripura’s peace and development journey but also strengthens national integration.
