Agartala, 22nd October 2024: The Ministry of Health has approved an increase in the number of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) seats at Agartala Government Dental College, raising the capacity from 50 to 63 for the 2025-26 academic session.
In an official letter addressed to the Principal of Agartala Government Dental College and IGM Hospital, Agartala, Amit Kumar, Secretary of the Government of India, confirmed the expansion. He mentioned, “In continuation of this Ministry’s Letter of Intent (LoI), and after receiving the necessary undertakings and other documents, I am directed to convey the Central Government’s approval for increasing the BDS intake from 50 to 63 seats for the upcoming academic session.”
The permission granted by the Central Government is initially valid for one year and will be renewed annually, subject to the verification of the college’s progress in meeting the stipulated targets. The original intake capacity of 50 will continue until the expansion facilities are fully developed. Any violation of these conditions could result in action under the Dentists Act, 1948, and the related regulations.
The letter also mentioned that any discrepancies should be reported to the Dental Council of India and the Central Government.

Nadda Ji for increasing the BDS seats at Agartala Government Dental College from 50 to 63 for the 2025-26 academic session. This expansion will greatly benefit aspiring dental students in the state.”
