Centre sanctions Rs 132.50 cr for IAP at Kailashahar & distribution of fish kiosks, Matsya Vaahini and Matsya e-rickshaws: Sudhangshu

Agartala, March 15, 2024: The central government has totally sanctioned Rs 132.50 crore for establishment of integrated Aqua Park (IAP) in Kailashahar in Unakoti district, distribution of 100 fish kiosks, Matsya Vaahini and Matsya e-rickshaws each, and 14 activities, Tripura Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das said on Friday.

Addressing a press conference at Civil Secretariat here in Agartala city on Friday afternoon, Minister Das said “Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Tripura submitted a proposal to Govt. of India (GOI) for sanction of Rs. 99.99 crore for establishment of integrated Aqua Park (IAP) in Satero Miyan Haur of Kailashahar Sub-Division under Unakoti District. In response Gol has sanctioned Rs. Rs. 42.3994 Crore (Central Share(90%): Rs. 38.1595 Crore & State Share: Rs. 4.2399 Crore.) in first phase for implementation of the said project under Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) during the year 2023-24. This project would implement covering 115.83 acre land in Satero Miyan Haur Area.”

“Another additional project was also submitted to Gol for distribution of fish kiosks, 100 Matsya Vaahini (Eco Friendly Moveble Fish Kiosks) and 100 Matsya E-Rickhaw to the unemployed youths during the year 2023-24 to make themselves Atmanirbhar. Total project cost was 22 crore. In response Gol has sanctioned Rs. Rs. 3.40 Crore (Central Share(90%): Rs. 3.06 Crore & State Share: Rs. 0.34 Crore.) in first phase for implementation of the said project under Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) during the year 2023-24.”

“Moreover, in response to our proposal, GoI has also approved Rs. 86.7017 crore as total project cost for implementation of 14 activities under PMMSY during the year 2023-24. Out of the total project cost Gol sanctioned Rs. 43.2965 Crore as Central Share, Rs. 4.941 crore as State Share and Rs. 38.4642 crore as Beneficiary Share. GoI has released an amount of Rs. 15.00 crore as Central Share for implementation of these 14 activities”, Minister told reporters.

To fulfill the gap between production and consumption of fishes, he also said that the establishment of Integrated Aqua Park in Satero Miyan Haur area of Kailashahar sub-division include- Indian major carp hatchery, brood stock ponds, nursery ponds and rearing ponds; growout earthen ponds; bio-floc complex; re-circulatory aquaculture system (RAS); feed plant; fish processing unit; aquarium and angling complex; restaurant; and farmers and students hostel, guest house.

He further added that this IAP will be established to produce 600 to 700 MTs of fish every year and around 1200 youths will get employment. At present, there is a demand of 1.15 lakh MTs of fish while the production is 85 lakh MTs. The rest need is procured from Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and neighbouring country Bangladesh.

In the press meet, Principal Secretary BS Mishra and Director of Fisheries department Santosh Das were also present.
